At the end of this year, Feather Magazine will go on an indefinite hiatus. It's not a decision I came to lightly and I'll probably struggle with it for a while, but it's the right choice. For the past nine months, I haven't had a chance to breathe and it's been hard for me to find the time to fully commit to my EIC duties.
I don't want to focus on what hasn't been done because we have done so much. For two years we've helped women with everything from affordable fashion to just finding out what in the world happened to their favorite Disney stars. We've taken a stand against issues like slut shaming and shed a special light on World AIDS Day every year. That's really just the tip of the iceberg.
So, we're going out for a while, but I can't tell the future. We could be back in a year and better than ever. Or we could just fade into a nice memory for everyone who was ever touched by the things we covered. Either way, I'm glad I was brave enough to go through with this small idea I had because the response was amazing.
I really want to take some time to thank everyone who worked for the magazine in the past two years, especially my first senior staff. Jeni, Catrina, Kirsten and Jenny: you ladies will always have a special place in my heart. You not only helped me make my dream a reality but you also really believed in what we were doing. The intense planning and four-hour conference calls (Jeni, you know what I'm talking about!), all while putting up with my bad jokes, is something I appreciate more than words can say.
I'm not sure when our official last day of publishing will be, but I'm looking at having it be before Christmas. I'll announce it in the coming weeks.
