Editorial: Twenty-Something 'GIRLS'

I wasn't very fond of GIRLS when it first came out a couple of years ago, but I picked it back up last weekend and it wasn't bad. I'm not a huge fan or anything, but I can respect the concept and the characters' experiences.

As a twenty-something, I sometimes feel like my time isn't valued or taken seriously because I don't have kids or a mortgage. I've been thinking about writing something on that lately. After some recent events in my personal life, I think I will.

In the meantime, check out Lena's Dunham's first spread for VOGUE. She's the February cover girl.

House Envy: Creative Space

I'm slowly working through my creative goals for the month. (I say slowly, but as I write this, we're only 10 days into the year.) It's caused me to be more inspired by images of creative people, I think. Designer and boutique owner Hannah Metz seems to fit the bill. The Selby got an inside look at her home and studio.

Making My Mark Step #1: 10 Mary Kay Parties in January

I had the pleasure of spending Saturday with a motivated and successful group of women who are set on spreading more beauty this year. It helped me to become more motivated about being successful and growing in the company. If I'm serious about moving to New York this year (with the possibility of not even having a job when I get there), I've got to get serious about this. Plus, it's really gratifying to not only see women feel better about themselves after just one Mary Kay appointment but completing my goals makes me feel good about myself.

I'm sure you all have resolutions for this year about your body: losing weight, eating healthier, etc. But don't forget about your skin! Mary Kay has the top skincare products in the nation and we're ranked in the top five globally. You've got me at your fingertips to come and give you facials, samples and the opportunity to get your friends together to be pampered.

My goal this month: 10 Mary Kay parties!

I've already done one and I've got another booked this month. That means I'm eight short of my goal. Remember when I set my 15 faces goal and got sick halfway through? Well, I made it happen. I'm planning to do the same this time by not being afraid of the word "no." That fear has held women, including myself, back for too long and I'm over being limited by myself.

So, get at least two friends together and we've got a party! You'll qualify for my hostess rewards program, which is pretty awesome. If you fall in love with a product, you'll get money toward getting it (and maybe even enough to pay for it outright with some left over).

Take a look at the rewards program below and let's get booking, ladies! Wouldn't you like to start 2014 with some FREE pampering and a new look?

New Year, New Goals

Happy New Year! I always love starting out with a clean slate. Usually, my goals are more about my personality. But I'm pretty much the person I want to be now. My biggest resolution is to focus on my health, which is only going to go downward as I age.

Every year, I choose a theme song for my life. Past ones have been "Live High" by Jason Mraz, "Almost There" from The Princess and the Frog soundtrack and "Little Wonders" by Rob Thomas. Since Queen B had such a great year, I really want to channel her work ethic in 2014, so how better than by choosing one of her songs? When I was trying to figure it out, "I Was Here" seemed to be the perfect fit. I think this is my year to leave my mark on the world.

This year, I also want to share my goals for the month with you guys. I think I'll feel more motivated to accomplish them if someone else knows about them. I'll repost it at the end of the month and check off things I accomplished.

• My unit's sales director has challenged us to throw 10 parties this month. I know I'll have at least two so far, so only eight more to go! Everyone who throws a party (just invite at least two friends) will receive a free gift. The more you invite, the better your gift will be.

• Little-known fact: I've been writing novels and short stories since I was 11 years old. I've had an idea for a YA novel for about a year, but I haven't gotten past character sketches. Right now, I'm focused on getting through two young adult books this month before I write anything.

• My room is overrun with clothing from years ago because I'm a huge pack rat. I'm going to let go of some of the mess to clear the clutter from my life. I plan on handing it down to my sisters and donating anything they don't want.

• I've got a super-secret project that's been in the discussion phase for a few months with a former colleague of mine. Now that we have big-girl jobs, it's harder to find time, but we want to get some progress done this month. (Fingers crossed!)

What are you resolutions for the New Year?
