For Real Friday: My Newest Segment...Morning TV Producer

Since I left my position as a editing clerk for The New York Times in July, I've been amazed at how much God has blessed me. For a few months, I got to give my brain a little rest and do all the big sister things I didn't get to do when I was living four hours away, like take my sisters to dance practice or pick them up from school. Then, I got a part-time job at the local newspaper, that allowed me to get a lot of writing done and meet some really cool journalists.

Now, I'm already on to the next chapter. I applied for a job as a producer for a TV news station before I even moved back home. It was a huge surprise to get a call about it last month and an even bigger surprise to be offered the job the day before Thanksgiving.

I took some time to think about it while I was visiting family for the holidays and ultimately decided to take the job. I'll be the producer for the morning show. It has some cool segments that will help me to utilize my magazine experience and I'll get to learn how to do something completely new.

I came to this decision thanks to some amazing people who I'm blessed to have in my life. I'd like to extend a big thank you to: my parents, my aunt, my grandmothers, my cousin Kim, my friends Marissa, Stephanie, Braxton and Kat and everyone else who listened to my ramblings while I made up my mind. My editors at the paper where I worked were also really understanding and supportive of my decision, despite the fact that I'd only been with them for a short time.

I'm so excited to start this new position and take on this new challenge.

P.S. I've also got some big changes coming up for Feather soon!

Editorial: Garrett Hedlund in Vogue

It's time for a shameful confession—I've never read On the Road by Jack Kerouac. In fact, I haven't read too many American classics. In high school I was in IB and that meant we didn't read much American literature (We read enough for me to fall in love with Toni Morrison after reading "Sula," though.) and I sort of specialized in African-American literature and drama in college when I minored in English. I think the only book that can be considered an American classic that I've read is Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

What I have done is watch Country Strong at least four times and not because I like country music.  (I mean, I'll listen to Taylor Swift and a little Carrie Underwood, but that's so pop it's barely country at this point.) It's because Garrett Hedlund is good in his role and he's definitely easy on the eyes. I can only expect he'll bring the same thing to the film version of On the Road, which he's promoting with this photo shoot. Hedlund's always struck me as a very rugged man, so I love how they didn't try to primp him or go too stylized.

At its heart this is just a very great editorial depiction of what helped define the Beats without traveling too far from Vogue's aesthetic.

House Envy: Jewel Tones

I've always felt jewel tones were meant to be in royal suites in castles across the globe, but usually they end up in your great grandmother's tacky house full of knick knacks and delicate things you can't touch.

This interior designer got it right. The jewel tones and mixed patterns along with the intricate wall paper really create a fantastic home. You're almost afraid to touch anything, but not so afraid that you won't. Grandmas all over the world should take note.

Spring/Summer 2013 Favorites: Jason Wu

This is part of my series of SS13 runway show favorites. You can see them all here.

There's never been a Jason Wu collection I didn't like. Since I'm picky about everything, that says a lot for how much I like him. His most recent collection really spoke to me with the dark colors and beiges, accentuated with sparkly overlays and leather.

With so many designers dead set on adding more and more to each piece, it's hard to even realize who their buyer is sometimes. I don't know a lot of women wearing 20 pound dresses, on or off the red carpet. Sometimes, it's best to start basic and use one thing, like the sheer fabrics Wu took advantage of in this collection, to make a standout statement that doesn't go overboard.

I love drama in a runway dress as much as the next person, but how many people are going to buy it?

Editorial: Andrej Pejic in Fashion Canada

If you didn't already know, Andrej Pejic is the most beautiful man to ever enter the modeling world. (Well, in my opinion, at least.) That's right, this is a man in all these photos! Odds are, you've seen Andrej a million times on the runway and in editorials, but never noticed. That's because he's good at his job and can even play up angles to make his shape look more feminine. He shows you why he's one of the most celebrated models of the moment in this shoot for Fashion Canada.

Next time Tyra is looking for judges for America's Next Top Model, she should consider people who've taken their craft to another level like Andrej. Not just people who've sensationalized themselves for the sake of branding. At least she hired Rob Evans, who's total eye candy and detracts from the ridiculous turn the show has taken in the past few seasons.

On the off chance you ever run into Andrej on the street, simply bow to his greatness.
