Editorial of the Day: Oh, Boy

Photos by Tesh for Marie Claire
Menswear for women's been done before. Yes. My favorite editorial incarnation was Brooklyn Decker by Matthias Vriens for Elle. That editorial was really true to menswear, complete with minimal accessories, and somehow feminine at the same time. I love how this one is barely even menswear in most of the photos, but you can still clearly see the inspiration. It's one extreme or the other with the way these are styled and it's somehow still really cohesive. I also love the little things in this styling, like the polka dot collared shirt layered under the striped one, the pink shirt peeking out on the wrists in the blue outfit, the cloth watch above and the understated ring on her middle finger in a photo below.

My favorite thing about menswear-inspired styling is how contrary it is to the attitude women have about accessories right now. They're just piling it on, but sometimes less is really more. Your bracelets shouldn't always be competing with your outfit.

Also, can we please acknowledge the awesomeness of the studded loafers, platform oxfords and silver Mary Janes?
