J. Crew Gets Romantic

I found these photos on my computer from a while ago (around a year ago, actually) that I always wanted to blog, but never did. I looked on Netflix and The Romantics was available to watch instantly, so I watched it. The story line wasn't really good and the cast definitely didn't spend enough time together before filming because it was obvious they were eight strangers pretending to be friends. The bonus was that the screenwriter, Galt Niederhoffer, definitely had a gift with words, which probably comes from the fact that it's based on the novel he wrote. He also directed the film. His closeness to the project may have blinded him from realizing the cast lacked real chemistry.

Regardless, they got some great press from a J. Crew feature before the film released. I love how the brand can make sparkly pieces look classy and not like you just came back from Las Vegas.

Editorial: Country Bliss

Ah, there's nothing like finding a new magazine early in the morning. During my daily sweep of Fashion Gone Rogue, I found these scans from Foam Magazine, which I've never heard of. I plan to look it up as soon as possible. But first, I had to post these scans.

Lately, I've been feeling the freedom these photos portray. I credit it with the time I spent in the country last month at a haunted trail. After my friends and I were scared half to the death on the trail, we noticed how beautiful the country was and how much closer the stars looked. I also just finished watching series 5 of Skins and the cast is full of young people who enjoy their freedom. At this point, I'm ready to go run through a field or visit a farm.

Although, I went to my cousin's farm once and vowed to never do it again. Have you seen those country bugs?

Words to Live By

Happy weekend, folks!

Style Icon: Babe Paley

"Mrs. P. had only one fault: She was perfect; otherwise, she was perfect."
-Truman Capote

Babe Paley was the fashion editor of American Vogue in the 1940s and probably the most stylish woman in New York City at the time. She also had a skill for finding rich husbands, including CBS founder William S. Paley. She was also perfectly put together at all times and, to borrow some language from her era, a real lady. It seems that everyone who knew her pointed out how elegant and graceful she always was.

The next time you credit some blogger with overaccessorizing, remember this jewelry storm happening on her wrist.

Designer Spotlight: Emma Kahng

After screaming with glee when I found out the first season of Joe Zee's show All on the Line was on Netflix, I screamed again when I saw that Gemma Kahng on the show. I saw one of her coats in one of my fashion books a few years ago and I still want one. I have this dream where I walk into a thrift store and find one of the jackets above in my size. I'd probably never take it off.

I looked at her website and found some beautiful images from the 90s of her clothes. Anyone who knows me, knows I hate 90s fashion, so if anything from that era catches my eye it means I absolutely love it. Her new line was really great, too. If I find photos of it, I'll post them soon.

The Fanning Sisters in W Magazine

The Fanning sisters are truly adorable. There's something about famous siblings that really seems to draw people in. I don't know how many families have two lawyers or two writers who are siblings, but it could be that it reminds us of our own families. I think we're more attracted to how a younger sibling will aspire to be like their older sibling.

I rarely include a cover photo, but even that was very well composed. I really love how they're dressed maturely, but not provocatively. It's a fine line and the stylists definitely didn't cross it.

Why My Glasses Are Cooler than Yours

Attention blog readers: designer Norma Kamali has the exact same glasses silhouette as I do! If those are eyeglasses, they may very well be the same brand. My glasses are officially cooler than everyone else's.

Unless you have the same ones at Tom Ford. And, in that case, I'm jealous.

By the way, the image is a screen shot from last night when I watched as many episodes of All on the Line's first season as possible before I couldn't stay awake any longer.

Lea Michele in Allure

These photos of Glee's Lea Michele from the new issue of Allure are beautiful. I love the Old Hollywood vibe I get from them. The makeup team created a very natural look by focusing on keeping the drama in her eyes. How amazingly retro is that winged eyeliner?

I haven't thought Lea Michele should on TV since I her performance of "Don't Rain on My Parade" at the Tony Awards a couple of years ago. That kind of theatrical talent as no place off the stage. But everyone wants to work in movies because more people see your face. I'd probably be doing the same thing if I were in her position.

But I can't sing to save my life.

Shoe Envy: Brian Atwood

How do you know when a shoe is totally fierce and should be in my closet? When it has its own promo. These shoes from Brian Atwood's Resort 2011 collection are my dream. I also dream about having the money in my bank account it would take to purchase them.

Do banks give loans for shoe emergencies?

Another Magazine I Want in America

I love American magazines. I want to work at an American magazine someday. But I just love the fiercness that comes from the magazines in other countries sometimes. It would just be really cool if I could go to any newsstand and pick them up.

These rustic photos from L'Officiel Paris are another reason I want the publication to come here. (Official America, anyone?) I actually have a copy I purchased when I was in Paris, along with like six other publications that are in a language I can't understand.

Trend I Love: Polka Dot Madness

I love how the polka dot shirt and pants aren't overkill.

I've always had a thing for polka dots. I'm happy they're trendy again, but I have never stopped wearing them. I actually just bought a polka dot scarf in the spring when I went to Paris. I'd like to tie it in a big bow, like the model has in the ad below with a cute blazer. But it's only cold in Florida for about five minutes a day, so we'll see how that plan works out.

Barrymore Bazaar

Let's take it back to the old days. The days when I watched E.T. in a continuous loop with my little sister. Back when Drew Barrymore was forever encased on film as a 6-year-old screaming when she saw the alien her brother was hiding in her closet.

That's about the time I became a Drew Barrymore fan. I don't care what anybody says about her films, she brings a quirky charm to all of them. Seeing that charm in most of her films, I was surprised to see the elegance she brought to this Harper's Bazaar shoot from their October 2010 issue.

And the styling is amazing. How fabulous is that brown Jean Paul Gaultier dress? More importantly, why haven't I hit the lottery so it can be in my closet?

Mary Blair for Disney

Mary Blair is one of those people who's a part of your childhood with you really knowing it. She was an illustrator for Disney and did some beautiful work. I've been wondering what to ask my parents for this Christmas and I think I'm going with Walt Disney's Cinderella with her original illustrations. Or maybe her illustrated version of Alice in Wonderland because I'm obsessed with Golden Age children's literature.

I'm sure you think I should feel weird asking my parents for a children's book at the age of 22, but I actually asked for (and received) Robert Sabuda's Peter Pan pop-up book. I have no shame.

Next time you're reliving your childhood on the It's a Small World ride at Disney, thank Mary because she designed it.

I Need a Subscription to Flare

I don't know too much about Flare because it's in Canada and I'm in the US, but I have loved everything I've seen of it online. These beauty shots are no exception. To showcase winter beauty trends, they used retro holiday hairstyles.

I'm so in love with this editorial!

Sweet Tea for the Road

I think Southern Weddings is probably the cutest magazine with the cutest site that I've recently discovered. When I'm ready to walk down the aisle  one day, as a girl born and raised in the south (I still live here!), I'd like a southern wedding. I have absolutely no plans to get married any time soon, but I still like to look at cute wedding photos.

Case-in-point: this cute idea for take-home sweet tea.

Sparkle & Shine

I love From Me to You and her .gifs blow my mind. I'm never quite sure how to explain how the Eiffel Tower sparkles at night to other people and this is the full effect from a beautiful point of view.

I really miss Paris.

The Spectacle of Nobility

I love this editorial from Vogue Japan. I'd love all this in my closet, but I'd settle for even working on a shoot with clothes I loved this much.

The last photo reminds me of one I've seen before and when I find it, I will do a post, so you can see the similarities.
