On the Real: Past Memories

The closer I get to moving back home, the more I start thinking about what it was like living there. It's been four years since I lived on the Gulf Coast, so it will definitely be an adjustment. When you count in having to live with my family again, that's definitely going to take some getting used to.

As I was contemplating this, I stumbled across these old photos in my Photobucket account. I mean, they're so old, they were on my MySpace page. But they reminded me of the friends I had growing up who made living in a small town bearable. There were tons of photos in the album, but I decided to just post ones with people I still like and talk to regularly. (And who I don't purposefully evade when I see them in Wal-Mart.)

Oh, and some embarrassing photos I took of myself. I was possibly even odder back then.

Editorial: Where the Fashionable Things Are

No, this isn't an actual editorial, but when I heard Mulberry did a Where the Wild Things Are themed ad campaign for their FW12 collection, how could I not post it? I seriously love children's literature and I love fashion, so putting them together is pretty much a dream come true.

Thank you, Mulberry. You're the definition of awesome.

P.S. Have you noticed all the design changes on my website? I thought it was time for a revamp. I also created a Facebook page (I've got a whopping 12 likes, guys! MAY-JAH!) because I felt a little self-conscious sharing posts on my personal account. Don't ask me why. I'm just weird like that.

P.P.S. I've been reading the "Shades of Grey" series and I'm seriously addicted. I could do without so much eroticism, but seeing Christian's journey has turned out to be a pretty engaging literary treat.

House Envy: Catherine Sheppard from The Life Styled

I like my apartment, but it's not really mine. I share it with a roommate and our complex is full of college students, so they have all these rules about what we can and can't do. By the end of next month, my place of residence will be whatever corner I can find in my parent's house. But when this phase of my life where I have no control in my living situation is over, I want to replicate this as much as I can.

Catherine Sheppard from The Life Styled has style in every aspect of her life. This is pretty much everything I aspire to have in my future, awesome life.

Color Story: Purple Dreams

I have the worst allergies and sinuses in the universe. Seriously. I'm allergic to dust, mold, mildew, grass and seven types of trees. Once, my sister sprayed some perfume and I had to go to the hospital because I had a severe shortness of breath.

When I see a photo like this, I think it's lovely, but also really sad because I'd die in a scene like this. Maybe not literally, but I'd never be able to enjoy this. At least I have photos to live through vicariously.

So Fetch: Striped Dress

I love pretty much anything with stripes. Or pleats. So, when I saw this dress, I immediately wanted to make it part of my summer wardrobe. It looks so comfy, but also really stylish. Unfortunately for me, I'm on a shopping break (The things I do to save up for my big move to New York are apparently boundless.) for the next few months. But you can purchase this from ASOS. Lucky devil.

P.S. Feather just got a CurrentlyObsessed.me profile! I'm so excited to share clothing items we love with our readers! And I also just added some new share buttons to the website and updated some pages. We're moving into the future, people.

On the Real: The (Former) NYT Worker Bee

There once was a very young worker bee finishing up an internship at a local newspaper during her junior year of college. This bee applied for a job with The New York Times Regional News Group, but she never thought she'd get it. Frankly, this worker bee was used to disappointment. But she did get the job, and was even hired on the spot. How do you like that? She really loved her job and got along with everyone at work, but she started to wonder what else was out there for her to see. So, after two years, the worker bee gave notice at her job and decided to move back in with her parents for a while to save up for her biggest move ever—New York City.

Because, you see, this worker bee studied magazine journalism in college and even did an in-depth analysis of racial implications in Parisian fashion magazines when she studied abroad in Paris. She loves them so much, she can't bring herself to rip out a page or even throw one away; she even started an online magazine. Plus, anyone who's known this bee for more than five minutes knows she wants to work at Seventeen someday.

This worker bee sounds a little crazy, right? Well, she'd be the first to tell you that she's not exactly normal. But this bee is still really young with no obligations, so she has the opportunity to do whatever she wants with her life. Why not take it? Even though she knows it's not going to be easy to go from living on her own to being under her parents' roof again, she's going to do whatever it takes to make her dreams a reality.

Not only is this worker bee looking for a job (Like, seriously. If you know someone hiring, especially in online publishing, she is totally interested and you should email her. Save her from ending up back on the futon in her family's computer room.) but she's also aiding in the search for someone to take over her job. She will not lie, it is a pretty hard job and you are under a lot of pressure, but just think of how accomplished it will make you feel when you've mastered your duties? Your work hours would be 2:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., you'll probably be part-time (unless you have a skill that would allow you to work in multiple departments) and it's in Gainesville, Fla. If you'd like the worker bee to possibly pass your name on to her bosses or want more info about her job duties as an Editing Clerk, send her an email.

If you'd just like to email the bee to wish her luck, please do so.

(If you're tragically lost, the "worker bee" is me.)

Editorial: Born in the USA

I probably should've posted this on Memorial Day, but I am horrible with non-Christmas holidays. If the Fourth of July wasn't so self-explanatory, I wouldn't ever know when it was. Plus, I was at my parent's house and their computer is historically slow. If you look really hard at photos of Benjamin Franklin, you can see it on his desk. But they never get rid of anything until it's totally dead.

I love the juxtaposition of what I see as European rebel styling with an All-American theme. This isn't a girl who eats apple pie and goes to American rock concerts. This is a girl who eats foods with fancy names and struts around the streets of Paris is really high heels for a midnight picnic near the Eiffel Tower. Basically, this is my spirit animal in a few years.

Color Story: Panama City Beach

This is a photo from a trip I took home a few months ago. It was right before sunset, and my sisters and I went down to look at the water before we caught a movie. It's hard to go from being surrounded by water to be landlocked. In the future, I need to live in a city where there are at least lakes or something beautiful to look at.

Right now, I've got trees and concrete. Not really a pretty sight.

Hello, Week. Bring It On!

There's so much going on for me this week: work, meetings, Ruffled Feathers, editing and some top secret plans. It's all in the works, but I'm in the midst of starting a new project with someone I love more than life itself. Unfortunately, I can't tell you about it until the end of summer. But I will tell you about all my insane life changes on Friday because things should be set in stone by then. Well, at least I hope they'll be set.

I'm also going to try to get off my laurels and do my best design work on this blog. But laziness is just my natural reaction to most situations. Fighting it all the time can't be good for my health, right? (Don't point out the holes in my argument, guys! Just give me this, OK?) I did change the background on here and on my Twitter. I figured the badges I'm putting on photos won't be as recognizable unless I brand myself with that logo.

I won't be able to really post this week, but I've got some stuff I've never posted that I'll be putting up for your enjoyment.

On the Real: Busy Bee

Cute AP Style cupcakes a co-worker made.
The past two weeks, I've only been posting to explain why I haven't been able to do my regular posts. Things are CRAAAAYYY for me right now. If I'm not at work, I have a meeting for something magazine related, I'm interviewing applicants, working on Ruffled Feathers, editing stories or answering emails.

Speaking of emails, by inbox has been blowing up. I can barely answer messages because I keep getting them.

I also haven't really gotten much sleep this week. Working nights makes it impossible to have any normalcy in your sleeping schedule. I'm like a bat ALL WEEK long, not just the days I work and I don't like it too much. By the time I wake up, it's time to go back to work. On the weekends, I lose the whole day. But it's never been this bad before. I'm basically falling asleep at my desk. These weather changes messing with my allergies aren't exactly helping either.

OK, I'll stop complaining now. Obviously, I'm really busy and don't get a full night's sleep too much, but it's still a really exciting time in my life. Plus, I will be announcing some exciting LIFE CHANGES next week! I'm really getting excited about my future. But prepare to judge me when I spill the beans because it'll just be human nature.

On the Real: Mid-Year Resolutions

First, this picture changed my life. OK, not really, but just LOOK AT IT! It's subtly sequined amazingness and I'm not sure how I lived before seeing it. In my old age I plan to wear gowns everywhere. Because I'll be old and it'll be cute and not as weird. But still kinda weird.

This week's been CRAZY. Good news: re-staffing seems to be going along smoothly. (A little too smoothly, if you catch my drift. I've got my eye on you, life. I know how sneaky you can be.) Bad news: I quit MyEveryzine because I was two days away from pulling out my hair and singing nursery rhymes to myself in the corner of my room, while watching a Winnie-the-Pooh sing-a-long tape over and over again. (Was that freakishly vivid? I'm thinking that may have crossed some kind of line and you're now wondering about my sanity. But I'm totally sane! Although, that is what an insane person would say...)

Other good news: Ruffled Feathers is doing great in its first week! I knew our bloggers were awesome, but I didn't know how awesome until this week. They're on fire, you guys. Seriously. Someone get a fire extinguisher. And allow me to stop, drop and roll because I wrote several posts this week, including one on how much I love Emma Stone. But who doesn't absolutely adore her, really?

I know it's June, but I'm adding a New Year's resolution to my list. I will no longer comment my feelings on news stories people share via social media. It's not in my nature to argue, so when I state my feelings, they're just a statement. But then everybody freaks out and turns on me. It wouldn't bother me so much if most of them were people I don't know. Why would you care about how I feel? I have absolutely no idea of who you are! (Also, I'm afraid these strangers will try to add me on Facebook later and I don't add people I haven't had at least two real conversations with. Seriously. There are people I've rejected who I knew all through high school, but if we never talked, you're a stranger. My mom told me long ago to never talk to strangers.) Plus, I'm in the media, so I have this totally different perspective and everyone's excuse is always that the media is making a big deal of things. No, they're reporting a story. When you share it on Twitter, call people and start a discussion amongst your peers, you're making the big deal. The news is in your hands, guys. Do with it what you choose.

OK, I'm done now. I've just been putting little comments on posts here and there for the past week to see if I was one of those people who can have conversations on the Internet and it was a failed experiment. From now on, I'll just share stories and keep my opinion to myself. I'm always more interested in the opinions of others, anyway.

On the real, though, can't we all just respect one another's opinions and agree to disagree?

Trend Alert: Short Suits

Although, I'm insanely in love with Elie Saab jumpsuits right now, it's summer. So, I'll refocus my fashion obsessions to short suits because they're more weather appropriate. But I demand to either be buried in Rose Byrne's Elie Saab jumpsuit from the SAG Awards or anything pleated from Kate Spade.

What I like about short suits is that they don't necessarily have to match. Just look at how Olivia put a blazer and shorts together. But is it even possible for her to not make an outfit work? If I put that on, I'd be a under the Don'ts in Glamour.

I've Got a Thing: For Monotone Outfits

OK, OK, OK. I'll try to stop adding features, but it's REALLY hard. Playing around with Photoshop is what I do to avoid actual work and things just come to me at times. During one of my latest graphic design benders, I created the cute little badge you see on the lower right of this photo. I was tired of trying to fit in the URL without it looking too invasive. This is simple and straight to the point.

Plus, how can you not love this look? The shades of purple go great together. When you do a monotone outfit right, you deserve to be all over the street style blogs.

By the way, Ruffled Feathers relaunched yesterday. It was a crazy day trying to get back in the groove of running two websites again, but it was worth it! I also finished the media kit for Feather, so any sponsors out there should start looking for emails from us.

Snow White and the Huntsman

I went to see "Snow White and the Huntsman" last night. There's a review up on Feather Magazine today. I was pleasantly surprised that Kristen Stewart showed some emotion. But she hasn't yet mastered subtle ones. Rome wasn't built in a day, guys.
