Editorial: Elizabeth Olsen in The Guardian

I've been really preoccupied by celebrity siblings lately, especially those with older siblings who used to be famous in the entertainment industry, but are now content to work on other projects. I've only followed Elizabeth Olsen, younger sibling of the infamous Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, in terms of her fashion, but as a movie review addict I've definitely seen her praises sung from the highest mountains.

I know I usually post magazine editorials, but this shoot from The Guardian (think The New York Times for the UK) really caught my attention. I love the overly dramatic shoots in magazines, but I'd much rather see something more down to earth. It just seems more attainable, you know?

Spring/Summer 2013 Favorites: Valentino

This is part of my series of SS13 runway show favorites. You can see them all here.

There's a reason they call  Valentino "The Last Emperor." He's constantly showing us how he earned the title by keeping his classic aesthetic, while still creating something new and fresh. Or maybe I'm just such an insane fangirl at this point he could send burlap sacks down the runway and I'd write about how amazing it was.

Inspired by the Rome of the designers' childhood, this line is pretty much perfection. Even the heavier pieces, which I usually hate, have a delicacy to them. Maybe it's because I was primed for heavier pieces because the designs went down the runway by weight, starting with simple slip dresses and ending with an extravagant white and blush dress that I'd live in if I didn't prefer the navy and white jumpsuit.

Editorial: Demi Lovato for Teen Vogue

Demi Lovato posts for Teen Vogue.
Ah, Demi. We meet again.

The last editorial of Demi Lovato I remember was when she was in Seventeen and that was a few years go. This shows a more grown-up Demi. She's also more confident, as well. With a few post-rehab successful singles under her belt and a multi-million dollar deal as a judge for The X Factor, she's been doing a lot to be proud of lately.

In the magazine, she says being single has also made her extremely happy and that it's something she needs right now. That's sad news to everyone who's been pushing her on top of toward One Direction's Niall Horan. But it's good news for Demi's self-esteem since she also says, "I never thought it was possible to be happy because of how depressed I was my entire life. But I feel so incredible. It’s like I’m living in a dream."

Spring/Summer 2013 Favorites: Elie Saab

This is part of my series of SS13 runway show favorites. You can see them all here.

For the past year, I've only viewed Elie Saab as the Master of the Jumpsuit. Anytime I've seen one worth even considering to wear on the red carpet, it's been from the brand. But there's so much more to it than that, which I was reminded of when their SS13 collection hit the runway during Paris Fashion Week.

While most of the looks were appropriate for the work wardrobe of a power woman, I was more attracted to the delicate sophistication of the pieces she'd wear on a weekend trip or to a charity benefit. I'm also a big lover of the monochromatic hues featured in this collection because I'm always drawn to simplicity. Of course, I included my favorite jumpsuit from the collection because I'm not ready to let go of what I love about them most.

For Real Friday: Working Girl

I guess it's safe to let you all know nowI'm gainfully employed! (If I find out it's not safe, I'm going to put this back in draft form faster than you can say unemployed.) I know I planned to go to NYC in January, but things changed when I got home and I'm needed here right now. I'll get a lot of writing under my belt in my new position, so it's not like I'll be working completely out of my element.

Thankfully, I was blessed with this job right before I went stir crazy. I'm used to working almost 24/7. Seriously. The only time I even watch television is when I'm live tweeting for Feather or watching Hulu while doing work for Feather. But for the past three months I've actually been watching television on the couch. And I hate watching television. That's how I knew it was past time for me to make myself useful in the working world again.

The last three months have not been a breeze by any means. They've been tough on pretty much every front and I've tried not to let it get to me, but having a job will definitely alleviate some of my life's stresses. If only because it'll get me out of the house six days a week.

That's right, I only get one full day off and I plan to spend most of it sleeping. But that's probably not going to happen because I sleep next to the family computer and my mother can't start her day without trolling Facebook and waking me up for commentary on what photos she thinks are hilarious. They usually are not.

Editorial: The Cast of 'Anna Karenina' in Vogue

I love Vogue all the time, but I really love when they do film-themed editorials. I saw the trailer for the upcoming film Anna Karenina last week and I immediately wanted to see the film. I usually don't watch period pieces in theaters because I like to be alone with my thoughts since they're usually so full of emotional turmoil.

Kiera Knightley looks fabulous, as always, and I was really excited to see a shot of Jude Law. I do wish they'd done a full cast photo, like they did with Marie Antoinette, but this still turned out great because Mario Testino is a genius. Seriously, every photo shoot of his I see is pure perfection.

House Envy: Interiors from 'Sex and the City 2'

Oh, Sex and the City. I will always love you, in television and film form.
Sex and the City 2 got a lot of bad press, which I find annoying. Male comedies are totally offensive with almost no basis and have no redeeming moments, but a female comedy that doesn't reflect male comedy humor isn't allowed to do the same. It's just really unsettling. Yes, there were some offensive moments, but they were mostly for comedic purposes and there was a redeeming moment at the end that put it all in perspective. But we'll just ignore that and then fall over laughing when when the cast of The Hangover makes fun of developmentally challenged people.

OK, that's my feminist rant for the day.

Everyone may not be able to agree on how they feel about the television series or the films, but we can all agree the interior design makes your apartment feel like some sordid hole you somehow found yourself inhabiting. Or maybe that's just how I felt because all my apartments reminded me of hotels since I never seemed to have the time to dedicate to decorating. If I ever win the lottery Jeremy Conway, production designer for the film series and television series, will be enlisted to decorate my swanky New York apartment and the suburban mansion I purchase for my family. (I just need to play the lottery first. Right after I figure out exactly how those cards you use work.)

Anyway, here are some images from the interiors of Sex and the City 2, featured in ELLE DECOR.

Spring/Summer 2013 Favorites: Lanvin

I'm going to be going through some of my favorite fashion week shows, twenty-three to be exact. This will last throughout the rest of the year, I think, and will replace Color Story in the interim.

Every time I hear or see Lanvin, I kick myself for missing their H&M collaboration. If you're not going to put more stores in the U.S., then stop taunting me with hollow promises of expanding your website purchasing abilities to America. Phew. I just needed to get that out.

Their SS13 collection has been called rebel classicism and designer Alber Elbaz called it "deconstructed classicism." I love how Lanvin creates a structured, box-like shape without ignoring a woman's curves. It's like Joan Crawford married Marilyn Monroe. I also love the looks that are subtle plays on the tuxedo without going into more obviously masculine-inspired Annie Hall/Jennifer Beals in Flashdance territory.

So Fetch: Let's GIF Down!

How much am I loving Britney Spears' facial expressions on The X Factor? Too much.
I love Tumblr, in part, for its GIFs, but I'm too lazy to use them as responses to things or reblog because that would mean searching for them. I also spend so much time using Tumblr for Feather, that I don't have time to do it personally too much.

One of my favorite Tumblrs is Tyler Oakley's and he shares a lot of GIFs. I've featured some of those and then just some images that really made me think of things in my life.

I've been working on stuff for Change Starts Here for the past few months. I want you
all to feel like this when you walk into a room.
This is what happens when I find out someone ate my Special K
bars without asking first.
I cannot wait for the return of the Bluths. I really hope Franklin Bluth makes a cameo!
After Mitt Romney's comments on getting rid of PBS, which is a blip on the
federal budget, my thoughts have been on my childhood exposure to
TV/film. It can be answered in two words: Julie Andrews.
I really miss The Newsroom, except for the insane amount of Edward R. Murrow
references, of course. Can it be summer 2013 already?
